The Pain of Commitment

Is commitment an emotion?
Why is it we tend to associate commitment with our emotions?

Enjoying a couple of minutes of quiet time this AM and pondering if commitment is a “feel good” thing or something else. Am I committed? What am I committed to?

If I feel the “right way,” then I can follow through on my commitments–I don’t think that is the way this whole thing should work.

TRUE commitment does’t work that way. It’s not an emotion: it’s a character quality that enables us to reach our goals. Human emotions go up and down all the time–or at least mine do–but commitment HAS TO BE ROCK SOLID!

There are some things every leader needs to know about being committed:

1: It is usually discovered amid adversity
2: It does not depend on “gifts” or abilities
3: It comes as the result of choiceNOT conditions
4: It lasts when it’s based on values

The Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” – John 6:67-68
