Confidence and Humility: DeMarco Banter

Galaxia-y-Espacio-ExteriorWhen does a leader’s confidence become arrogance?  What does humility look like in a true leader’s life?  I have pondered this often… is it a fine line?  I used to think so until reading the commentary in Psalms 8:3-5, 9 in the Maxwell Leadership Bible.

A true leader perceives his identity and maintains both his confidence and humility.
The leader must be fully aware of his own weaknesses and humanity and fully comprehend that in the grand sweep of the galaxy—man accounts to close to nothing.
The leader sees his God-given position as a privilege.  He knows that God has made humankind a little lower than Himself.
The leader sees balance by giving all glory to God.  This can surely be overt…but I believe it can also be covert.
Covert you say?
Give all the glory away to God’s creation…to His people.  The leader did not do any of it on his own… it was all the people with him that did the true lifting–give all the glory to God and His creation–and always remember….it is so not about you!

When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Psalms 8: 3-5, 9
