Acts 19: 8 Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. 9 But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. 10 This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.

Ever notice time in the Bible… I mean REALLY notice it? Nothing ever happens quickly. I have a passion for mentoring and I came across this verse this morning along with some words from John Maxwell… something I am going to need to ponder for a while.

Maxwell notes: “Consider how we can do the same when we develop others….”

“Be familiar with your strengths and weaknesses.
Know the people you wish to develop
Clearly define goals and assignments
Allow them to watch you serve and lead
Hold them accountable for their work
Give them freedom to fail”

Great thoughts… but the DeMarco note here is… it will TAKE TIME! It will take time for you to mentor, it might take time for you to even be seen as a mentor. AND it will take time to notice your mentoring in your people. With the recent passing for Citadel Assistant Commandant of Cadets, Col Harvey Dick…it brings it all to light… we all speak very highly of the lessons we learned from this great man… but many of us thought his last name very fitting when we were cadets… it took time for us to realize we were indeed being mentored by the MASTER. Spend some time mentoring… and spend some time being mentored… it’s a two way street… and REMEMBER to say THANK YOU!

I don’t think I ever said… Thank you Col Dick for all you did to teach and mentor a California Surf Punk.
