Vision? We don’t need no stinkin’ vision…

A leader’s role is to raise people’s aspirations for what they can become and to release their energies so they will try to get there.”
— David Gergen

Vision, Goals, Strategy are all things I am passionate about…pretty much a strategy “wonk.” I am very aware there are leaders that find these things to be totally academic and not required. There are so many angles to take here, but let’s talk about team and vision

If your team, unit, squadron, believe in the vision of the unit and begin to develop genuine trust in one another, they will be in a position to demonstrate true team work. Notice… the “team members” will be in a position to demonstrate true team work–That does not necessarily mean they will do it.

For there to be teamwork or unity of vision–several things must happen.

1) The unit members must genuinely believe that the value of the team’s success is greater than the value of their individual interests.

2) Personal sacrifice must be encouraged and rewarded–by the team leader and the other members of the team.

As this happens and individuals take hold of the vision, the people will identify themselves more and more with the unit or team, and they will recognize that individualism wins trophies, but teamwork wins wars!

while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
1 Corinthians 12:24-26
