I am sure I am not the only one this happens to. Do you ever wake up around 2AM and just begin to think? In the groggy two o’clock in the morning state of mind it is really tough to grasp coherent thoughts, but usually around wake up time it begins to become clear.
Every once in a while I get the feeling of being off target, or perhaps chasing things in life that might not be a priority in the grand scheme. The question is what to do to correct this tangential life. The word that came to me this morning is discipline.
1. the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience.
The dictionary definition is fine, but what discipline boils down to is doing what I really don’t want to do, so I can do what I really want to do—does that make sense? Perhaps it is paying the price in the little things so I can get to the bigger things.
1) Disciplined Thinking: Huge for an ADD type like me. I have to keep my mind active with regular mental challenges. If anyone follows the blog or the news feed, this is my attempt at thinking, pondering, and debating bigger issues. one can’t really get far in the life unless he uses his head.
2) Disciplined Emotions: Something I ponder daily. I can either master my emotions or I can be mastered by them. My feelings can actually prevent me from doing what I should do or perhaps drive me me to do things I shouldn’t
3) Disciplined Actions: My mind and my actions are important for sure, but they can only take me so far. Actions are what separate winners from losers…actions ALWAYS reflect my degree of discipline.
